Hand-created in small batches, founder and preparer, Reena S. creates natural, luxurious, gluten-free skincare products. Using naturally derived ingredients to nourish skin from the inside out, BALM SKIN CO. They are here to take us back to our roots, and show us why clean, green and sustainable are here to stay.

How did you come up with the concept of BALM SKIN CO.?

BALM SKIN CO. is a luxury vegan skincare line dedicated to helping people discover their natural beauty using clean beauty products designed with the highest quality ingredients found in nature. BALM universally means “healing” or “calming” and this concept to me was very important. I knew I really wanted to incorporate that into my skincare experience.

What made you jump into the beauty space?

I have always been in the beauty space. Since I was a budding teenager, I used to create my own formulations for the face, hair, and body. I believed in “natural beauty” and was always looking at how I could be as beautiful in my natural state as possible. I became a certified makeup artist in 2018 because I enjoyed making up was fun (still!) I also have a diploma in natural skin care and hair care products and am MUA certified.

What is your mission with BSC?

Our mission is to help people realize their natural beauty from nature. It’s that simple.

What would you say to anyone looking to break into the beauty space?

Start with what you know, where you are but never stop learning.

Have you seen any shifts in your work due to the pandemic?

To be honest, this didn’t change things much for us. Since our launch, I’ve been in the beauty business via e-commerce, so this has come in handy during this time. However, what made me realize is that you have to be able to adapt to change.

Was there anything that surprised you during this time?

It always feels really great when people recommend or refer our products to their friends, family, and even strangers! It makes me really good when I know we’re making such a difference that someone wants to share the good news. It’s really special when people share their testimonials about how our products have helped their skin, or find their favorite “holy grail” they’ll never give up.

What did you learn about connecting with your community as you build your company?

I like to be stylish and connect with my community. Celebrating their gains when they found out our products work on their skin. Helping people see that beauty goes beyond skin and that true beauty is always on the inside – we just help them show it.

What is the most important thing you have learned about yourself since launching your brand?

It’s great when things are going well, and it can be really annoying when they aren’t. I learned how flexible I am. I never thought I was so creative. Running this business on my own made me tap into my creativity and really discover a whole new side of who I am. It was a huge gift.

What’s the best business advice you’ve ever received?

Be valuable. Nothing is permanent. Everything is always changing.

Can you share with us how you see BSC’s growth and your vision for the brand?

As an emerging luxury skincare line, we want our brand to be a household name. When people think of clean beauty or natural skin care products, they think of BALM SKIN CO. We want to become a global brand that people feel confident in.
